Publications

Waterford CityCC has responded to the needs of the childcare sector and carried out research when necessary. Examples of some local research carried out and reports produced are as follows: research on professional development in childcare 2004, Diversity in Childcare 2003, training paths 2004, Advancing Childcare 2007, report on outdoor conference 2010, Directory of Parent Supports 2011 and a number of publications for childminders developed in collaboration with the Munster CCCs.

The Committee also prepares local publications for use by the Childcare sector and parents across the city eg Choosing Childcare, information leaflets on CETS, CCS and ECCE.

In addition the CCC has access to a range of publications from other CCCs and relevant organisations which are available from the links on this website.

Evaluation of the impact of the National Childminding Initiative

An evaluation on the National Childminding Initiative was carried out by Waterford City and Co CCs and the HSE in 2010 and launched in 2011. The report was researched and written by Dr Mary Daly was launched by Fiona McDonnell of the National Policy Unit, HSE. Copies of the report are available from the office of the WCityCC.  Strategic Plan for Childcare in Waterford City

The four year strategic plan ‘Advancing Childcare and Early Education for Every Child’ (2007-2010)was launched on 10th Dec 2007 by Minister Martin Cullen TD.
The strategic plan is available in three formats: the full report, the executive summary and the user friendly guide. Commissioned by Waterford City Childcare Committee and Waterford Childcare Forum in 2003.This publication gives a summary of all the training available inWaterfordCityand gives additional information about training, career prospects, accreditation etc. The report was researched and written by Community Consultants.

 

2. Children, Diversity & Childcare – commissioned by the Childcare Committee in 2003

The research which examined the situation for certain minority groups inWaterfordCityexplored how the needs and rights of children in these groups could best be met through the provision of comprehensive, inclusive quality childcare. The research was carried out and written by Michael Rush.

 

Professional Development in Childcare Sector3. Professional Development in the Childcare Sector in Waterford City and County: A Discussion Paper 2005.

WaterfordCityandCountyCCCsundertook this piece of research in 2004. The research examined the levels of experience, training, networking, employment practice, pay and working conditions, membership of Trade Unions etc The research explored factors which affect professional development. The research was launched in may 2005.

 

4. Partnerships for Quality Childcare – Developing an Integrated Model in 2006 by the Munster Network of CCC’s
by theMunster Network of CCCs and Forbairt Naoinrai Teo: 2006.  This piece of research was led by Waterford Co CCC and is being used to inform on future developments on integrated models for childcare.

 

5. Developers Guide: a Resource Pack for Planning & developing a Childcare Service : 2006/2007

This publication was jointly produced byWaterford City CCC,WaterfordCountyCCCandKilkenny CCC. Copies are available for providers, developers and planners.

6. Building for Children: Conference Report: 2007

This report summarises the outcome of the conference papers presented at the ‘Building for Children’ Conference hosted byKilkenny CCCand jointly organised by ten Childcare Committees, including Waterford City Childcare Committee.

7. Childminding: Step by Step Guide to Becoming a Professional Childminder

This a joint publication prepared by the Munster Network of Childminding Advisory Officers and is available for practicing Childminders who have been voluntary notified to the Childcare Committee.
